Nine Nights in Cebu

Three stops. City life, adventure, plenty of beach time—and one very big celebration.

A quick note: This is our tentative plan for the trip. We’re still working through the details, so activities, timing, and even the order of things may change as we get closer.

Cebu City

DAY 1

ARRIVE & SETTLE IN

Everyone will be arriving on different flights, so Day 1 is intentionally wide open. Make your way to the hotel, get settled, recover from the trip, and take the day at your own pace. We’ll share some tips for getting from the airport to the hotel before the trip. If enough of us are awake and feeling adventurous that evening, we may head out to a local night market for some food and a first taste of Cebu—but there are no planned group activities and absolutely no pressure to join.

DAY 2

RELAX, EXPLORE & WELCOME DINNER

After a long trip, there’s no reason to rush into the day. Recover from the jet lag, book a massage, or head out and explore at your own pace. If you feel like getting out, there will be plenty nearby—shopping, food, and places for the kids to burn off some energy at an arcade or indoor playground. That evening, we’ll all come together for our official Welcome Dinner and kick off the trip as a group. Location and details are still to come.

DAY 3

ROAD TRIP TO MOALBOAL

No early wake-up call today. We’ll leave Cebu City at a comfortable hour and make our way south toward Moalboal, with a few stops along the way. We’ll stop in Carcar, famous for its lechon, for lunch and a taste of one of Cebu’s best-known local specialties. Vegetarian options will be available too. We’ll also spend a little time exploring the local market and a few sights before continuing on to Moalboal. Once we arrive and get settled, wander around town, grab dinner wherever looks good, have a drink by the water, or simply enjoy your first evening in Moalboal.

DAY 4

WHITE BEACH + THE SARDINE RUN

This is one of the days we’re most excited about. We’ll start with a relaxed jeepney ride out to White Beach for swimming, beach time, and lunch by the water.

After a few hours there, we’ll head back to Moalboal for the experience that makes this place famous: the Sardine Run. We’ll step into the water alongside millions of sardines moving together in massive, shimmering schools just offshore. It’s one of those experiences that looks unreal in photos and even better in person. And if we’re lucky, we may see sea turtles cruising through the area too. And we’re not done yet. While some of us are out doing the Sardine Run, Bernadette’s family will be getting dinner ready at the house they’re renting in Moalboal. When we return, we’ll finish the day with a home-cooked Filipino meal made by the family—a chance to eat together and share some of the food they grew up with. Jeepney rides, White Beach, the Sardine Run, and a family-cooked Filipino dinner—this is going to be one of the signature days of the trip.

DAY 5

KAWASAN FALLS

Get ready for one of the biggest adventures of the trip. We’ll head to Kawasan for a canyoneering experience through Cebu’s incredible tropical landscape—hiking, swimming through turquoise water, scrambling through the canyon, sliding down natural rock formations, and making our way toward the famous Kawasan Falls. There are jumps along the route for those who want them, but you can still enjoy the experience without taking every jump. For planning purposes, we’re recommending canyoneering for ages 12+ and anyone comfortable swimming, walking over uneven terrain, and being active for 3+ hours. Have a younger adventurer who wants to join? Age requirements vary by operator, and some allow younger kids, so we’ll see what options are available once we select our guide.

Prefer a more relaxed Kawasan day? You won’t miss out on the scenery. Families with younger kids—and anyone who would rather skip canyoneering—can take a later van directly to the lower lagoon and falls area. You’ll get to spend the morning swimming in Kawasan’s famous turquoise water, relaxing beneath the falls, and enjoying the tropical scenery without making the full canyoneering trip through the canyon. When the canyoneering group reaches the bottom, we’ll all meet back up for more time in the water and lunch together at Kawasan before heading back to Moalboal.

Mactan resort arrival

DAY 6

ON TO MACTAN

After a few adventure-filled days in Moalboal, we’ll pack up and make our way back across Cebu toward Mactan. We’ll break up the drive with a stop for lunch somewhere along the way—details still to come—before continuing to our resort. Once we arrive, check in, unpack, and settle into resort mode. After the last few days, we’ve earned a slower afternoon. The evening belongs to you. Find a great spot for dinner, explore the resort, meet up with whoever is around, or just enjoy your first night in Mactan.

DAY 7

JPARK WATERPARK DAY

Time for the kids to unleash. We’ll spend the day at Jpark Island Resort & Waterpark for a full day of pools, water slides, splash areas, and plenty of time to cool off and play. The kids can race from slide to slide, float the lazy river, hit the wave pool, and burn off as much energy as they want. Adults can join in—or find a shady spot and enjoy the slower side of the day. It should be an easy, fun family day before the big celebration. Afterward, everyone can decide where the evening takes them.

DAY 8

TEN YEARS • ONE BIG CELEBRATION

This is the night we came all this way for. We’re keeping the daytime completely open so everyone has plenty of time to do their own thing—and get ready for the night ahead. Near sunset, we’ll come together to celebrate ten years of marriage and a milestone we wanted to mark in a big way. From there, it’s great food, drinks, music, dancing, and a whole lot of celebrating. No rushing off. No early morning plans waiting for us. We’re here to party the night away.

DRESS CODE — ISLAND SMART CASUAL

Keep it comfortable, polished, and tropical. Linen shirts and pants, polos, sundresses, skirts, and other lightweight warm-weather attire are all perfect. No suits or ties needed—we want everyone comfortable and ready to celebrate.

DAY 9

YOUR DAY, YOUR WAY

Nothing on the schedule today. After a big night, we’re leaving the final full day completely open. If you still have some adventure left in you, head out island hopping, get back on the water, or try one of Mactan’s water activities. Want to bring something home? This is also a great day for souvenir and pasalubong shopping before everyone starts heading their separate ways. Or make up your own plan. This day is yours to spend however you want.

DAY 10

UNTIL NEXT TIME

All good things eventually come to an end. Today we’ll check out and start making our way home. Everyone will have different flight schedules, so we’ll share airport transportation tips and other departure details as we get closer. Not ready to go home yet? If you’re thinking about extending your trip, let us know. We’d be happy to help with ideas for other places to explore in the Philippines or Southeast Asia—or even a stop in Seoul or Tokyo on the way home. Thanks for making the trip and celebrating ten years with us. We hope you leave with some incredible memories—and maybe a few ideas for your next adventure.
